Why does Salt Lake City have mainly democratic elected officials?

When the rest of Utah is very heavily Republican. Why does Salt Lake City have mainly democratic elected officials?
Big city, simple. It's the rednecks who fall for the repub line.
Salt Lake City is probably more educated and concerned about the whole of America than the rural parts of Utah. Why does Salt Lake City have mainly democratic elected officials?
SLC is the only really semi-liberal/moderate place in the state due to the fact that it's an urban area and probably holds a good chunk of the state's non-Mormon population.
Because the state is heavily Mormon, a conservative demographic, but Salt Lake City is actually fairly secular.
