Are you saying your boss and co-workers are cheap and fun things to do? haha, gross. Anway, the good thing about salt lake is that there is a lot of outdoor activities to do (outdoor=free). There are numerous hiking and biking trails for all skill levels. You can also spend some time in Temple Square (the heart if downtown). Research your family tree, go to the drum circle in liberty park on Sunday, go the planetarium, check out olympic sites. These are what come to mind first.
