Were seagulls ever imported to Salt Lake city to help with a plague of locusts?

My mother in law has been known to embellish stories. She told us this gem the other day and was just wondering if it's true or she is just spouting nonsense? Were seagulls ever imported to Salt Lake city to help with a plague of locusts?
The Mormons thought God sent them as a plague of locusts," [according to Patrick Lorch, an insect behaviorist at Kent State University]. "They had a huge problem, but apparently they repented or stopped whatever they were doing wrong, and God sent seagulls to save them from the crickets. That's why if you go to the Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City you'll see a monument to the seagull."

With many millions still marching across Nevada and coming into Utah, looks
LOL, no. They just showed up. How would they have "imported" seagulls in the 1800s?Were seagulls ever imported to Salt Lake city to help with a plague of locusts?
LOL, they weren't seagulls. They were pelicans and flamingos - the only two birds who really eat locusts. This is why you see pelicans and flamingos decorating most people's yards in Salt Lake City. They saved the City from the scurge of Locusts God sent upon them to punish the people for their sins.
I believe it is a myth.
