I should be getting an offer tomorrow for a financial aid officer position. For negotiating purposes, what range should I expect? I have not worked as a financial aid officer but I have some experience as a loan manager for a bank and have a bachelor's degree in economics and marketing.What should I shoot for from an offer of The Art Institute of Salt Lake?
If its one of the Art Institutes run by EDMC (all of them that use the
AI logo), avoid them like a plague. They're not an art school
employers take seriously. They're open enrollment, they take ANYONE.
They just want the financial aid from the government that you are
entitled to.
If you ask me, they're an elaborate corporate scam to funnel as many
Government Pell grants and guaranteed loans out of students as they
can and leave the students with the bill.
They're like McDonald's of Art "Colleges". They're a chain that is
popping up everywhere. They buy out dying schools, rename them, keep
the accreditation.
They may seem like they would be good, but it is all smoke and
mirrors. Pretty building with pretty computers. Meanwhile, it will
just ruin your life.
The market demand they say they're meeting is not the demand of the
Job market, its the demand of the students. Students that graduated AI
are struggling to get jobs and have over more than $50,000+ or
$90,000+ in debt depending on what degree they went for. Degrees that
are worthless in the job market.
Basically, AI is a degree mill. They use bloated success stats and
circle logic to back them up.
They count students working at Toys R Us as in the field. Avoid them
if you want to actually have a decent future.
If you really want to pursue your passion, go to a community college,
study fine art, and then transfer into a state school. It will be
cheaper and the money you save you can buy your own equipment and
STILL have money left over for a better future.
Their job leads are bogus, they go to Monster, Craigslist, and career
builder just like everyone else. Their top employer is HOME DEPOT
(Check their own website) and I guarantee none of those are art jobs.
Don't make the same mistake my friends and I did. We'll be paying for
it for the rest of our lives.
If you go with AI you'll be folding clothes at Target or hawking video
games at Toys R Us for $8.25 an hour and struggling to pay $90,000+
with bill collectors haunting your every waking moment for the REST OF
YOUR LIFE with no way to stop them because there is no bankruptcy
protection on Student loans.

I'm looking to get into kickboxing. Where would I start in Salt Lake City?
I'm a complete novice and have never taken a kick boxing class in my life, but I would really like to get into something that would not only be health-promoting, but practical in self defense. I want something not too expensive that I can do up to three times a week. I don't care about competitions. I'm doing this to be healthy and confident.I'm looking to get into kickboxing. Where would I start in Salt Lake City?

Are there any places to get decent roller derby skates in Salt Lake City?
I have been searching high and low. The only quad skates I have been able to find are the "roller derby" brand name, which I have read are actually the worst ones you can get for roller derby. Although, I got my skates at www.rollerderbydepot.com and they are very good about answering questions, also they have pretty fast shipping! You can get a pretty damn reasonable rookie package that comes with skates/pads/helmet, and if the skates don't fit you can exchange them.

Where I moved from, many of the schools opened their tracks up to the public after school hours, during the summer, etc. What about the schools here in Salt Lake? It is fascinating to me to see all the Mormons say the temple is free. While technically they are correct, it is certainly not a full nor honest answer. They use the same techniques when trying to convert people - tell them partial bits of truth and build a picture that is NOT correct.

If travel is prohibitively expensive, you can get married (or perform other ordinances) at a temple closer to you. If you are so poor that you cannot afford the necessary clothing, the Church will surely help you out.
As long as you pay your tithing, which is 10% of your increase, you can go to the temple, and they don't charge anything. Unless, of course, you find it expensive to live a Christ-like life, and follow His commandments.

I worked in Salt Lake City for 2 months, will I get any Tax Benefits? My employer did not reimburse expenses?

We are not Mormon and have heard that because we are Christian we will be shunned. We have heard horror stories about how our children will not have friends or be invited to birthday parties etc. We are very open minded and accepting of others and are having a hard time believing this is true. The biggest thing that I would worry about if I were in your shoes would be too many people trying to befriend you, specifically with the idea of trying to convert you. While there are always exceptions, the general population of our members are very friendly and welcoming.

I have lived in 5 different states (one of which is Utah) and Germany. And in all the members I have ran into I have seen the same kind of patterns. The Mormons are set up geographically so if you move into an all mormon neighborhood, it could be kind of lonely for you until you join a church and get connected.
The only problms I have found was an actual strip club in UT, holy Moses and a person left a nast gram on my car once when I was having a hard time parking my rental car (so I thought I parked far enough away at the D.I.(Desert Industries=second hand store)) and going to he SLC temple square and being attacked by LDS workers trying to convert me.
When you are known as open-minded to mormons? They love that! Forget all those horror stories about living in the Land of the Morg (mormon organ). They will appear to love you.... right into their church society. If you don't fight against them? They don't fight against you! Very simple people, LDS.

Can you go to jail in the middwest US if you are a homorsexualist - even if you never do any whirly-gig stuff? Is the Bible against homosexulicity? If so, is it a sin to listen to music recorded by homosexualists like Elton John, Johan Sebastian Bach, and Lynard Skynard?Is it still illegal to have an interacial marriage in some states like Mississippi, Nebraska and Salt Lake?

Check with your local gay center and check the bulletin board. Go to a local gay AA meeting and ask if anyone has a room. Put this question of GLBT and ask there. Check the bulletin board at the local AIDS project center and ask them if they offer any subsidized housing for gay people. We have an apartment complex here that ONLY allows gay people and the prices are LOW but the waiting list is LONG!
If all else fails I have a room for rent and it's $500/month or less if you help with house chores. But it's in the desert of SoCal and it's a bit toasty outside right now. There's a great view though and endless dirt trails for riding ATV's or dirt bikes and the winters are mellow.

The mall is really nice, takes like three hours to walk it, and they have more than one, it is a good city for kid's, but do keep an eye on them, there are a lot of pervert's in the big city's. When you have the layover in Salt Lake City, you don't want to go outside the TSA checkpoint because you would have to go through a security check again. And as you know, the security checks do have lines which then might make you miss your connecting flight. Relocating to Salt Lake City, would like to live in a good area of town,with a year round youth swim program?
Looking for a good year round swim program for the kids, and would like to live in a nicer area of town, even though I know the city is really nice. Which are the nicer suburbs that are still between 200 and 250,000 for housing with good school districts. Not afraid to drive 20 minutes. I have read that NE of the city is really nice, but I really don't have that much information. Any info would be appreciated about locations, zip codes, school districts and year round swimming. Use to be second nature for people to wash they're hands after using the restroom. It seems that now'a'days people are reverting back to the cavemen days of wipe your bum and grab your sandwich. Heck, one time I saw a waitress drop a piece of toast off of a plate she was fixing to serve to a customer, pick the bread up and put it back on the plate like nothing happened. Needless to say, we havent been back.

Try the salt lake arts academy. its located downtown and serves grades 5-8. the school only has about 300 students so class sizes should be small. In addition to art classes They try to include art into the core curriculum like science and math. She will have to do more than just visual arts as participation in other arts such acting, dance and theater is required.

7 to 8 hours. It is a nice and pretty drive.
A plane is quick and about an hour flight, but once you get into Southern Utah, and drive through St. George it is just really pretty!

Make sure your car has good AC and excellent music. You'll need it!
It's 520 miles of flat landscape, cacti, the occasional jack rabbit, and afternoon heat, heat, heat.
Yahoo! maps says it'll take just over seven hours to make the trip. Either start in the early morning to take advantage of the a.m. coolness, or in the late afternoon to take advantage of the p.m. temperature drop. Haunted house in salt lake city, Utah that is an insane asylum? ?
I've heard about this insane asylum in salt lake city, that is actually a real insane asylum with real insane people. It is supposed to be around Halloween that they let people try to go through the whole building, and you have to sign a waver and every thing like that, and if anyone has any info, a website, or location or anything please let me know. There was a haunted house run by the inmates of the Utah State Mental Hospital. However it closed in like the 80's. You did have to sign a waiver because they could touch you. It was probably the freakiest Haunted House out there. Nothing screams crazy like crazy people running the show.

I don't know, I've never been there, but I know that there is a large Mormon/LDS population in the SLC area, and I know Mormons are enthusiastically opposed to drinking or consuming any mind altering substance, so based upon that I would imagine that no, there probably isn't as much of that sort of thing going on there as in places with more liberal populations. I could be wrong, but nobody else has offered any opinions, so I thought at least I could throw this out there.

What is the best route to follow when driving from Salt Lake City, Utah to Atlanta, Georgia?
We are going to be making the trip in mid December of this year. We would like to see some sights to make the drive worth it, while still trying to make it across the country in about a week. I'm not sure of the weather in mid-December, it could drastically change any route.
In good weather, I-80 East to I-29 South to I-70. Out of St. Louis take I-64 to I-57, follow that South to I-24. Then you follow I-24 to Chattanooga. Leaving Chattanooga, follow I-75 to Atlanta. Your distance will be 1,875 miles, travel time should be 28 hours spread out over 4 days.
In bad weather you will want to take a route that does not take you into higher elevations. I have been in Kansas City when there was an awful lot of snow before Christmas, and that's not even high elevation. If you are used to driving in show, the last route may be OK.
Otherwise take I-15 South to Las Vegas. Then take US 93 South to Phoenix and pick up I-10. Take I-10 East to Mile 186 in Texas, at this point take I-20 to Atlanta. This fair weather route is much farther, distance 2,563 miles and travel time should be 39+ hours over 4 days.
I travel in a motorhome and must watch out for these things and try to cover all bases. Being stranded, in a snow storm, in an automobile is different than a motorhome. I have a nice warm bed to stay in while waiting for rescuers.
As for sights to see, stop at every states welcome center as you travel and pick-up their state map. Most also have brochures of things to see and do in their state.
