What are the best things to do in Salt Lake City?

My wife and I have 4 days in Salt Lake city in September. Can anyone suggest what to do so we make the most of the time? We have a car so surrounding areas also considered.

ThanksWhat are the best things to do in Salt Lake City?
Some of the typical tourist things to do:

*Temple Square, which includes the Mormon Tabernacle where they still hold concerts and events, the visitor center, the Assembly Hall, and the surrounding area which includes the Church History Museum, the Family History Library, Conference Center, Church Office Building (view of the city at the top), the Joseph Smith Memorial Building (formerly the Utah hotel, and still impressive inside)and get good pictures of the SL Temple if you're interested in those kinds of things. Most of the buildings have tours that talk about the history. Use the first link below to check on which events will be happening while you're there. A lot of them are free.

*A small, but interesting park called Gilgal Gardens is near downtown on 749 East 500 South. It was the backyard of a retired stonemason who worked on it in his spare time. Some of the locals don't even know about this place. It's free. Link 2. I recently visited the International Peace Gardens, which is very interesting, but a bit run-down since the Olympics, but a good activity if you just want a peaceful walk with something to see. It's on 1000 South 900 West, and you can use link 3 to see if you're interested.

*You can drive to Park City, where a lot of the Olympic events were hosted, and where Sundance Film Festival is held (though only in January). At the Park City ski resort you can ride the gondola (not free) up for some gorgeous views of the mountain and some decent hikes. You can also take a bobsled ride in the Olympic park. More info in links 3 %26amp; 4.

*There's the Hale Center Theater, the Capitol Theater, Pioneer Theater Company, and Kingsbury Hall that all have regular events ranging from plays, musicals, operas, and concerts.

It really all depends on what you're interested in. There are a lot of fabulous restaurants in Salt Lake as well (Red Iguana, Ichiban, Star of India, local favorite Cafe Rio--and I do recommend at least one stop at Nielsen's Frozen Custard. The one in Salt Lake is on 3900 S and Highland Drive, I think the next closest is Bountiful--north of Salt Lake).

I glanced over the Trip Advisor recommended sites, and generally agree with the opinion on the ones listed, so look over that list and see what appeals to you, link 6.
