What would happen if salt-water fish were put in a fresh-water lake?

.

If someone built a man made lake, and provided a food source, and put inside that lake... salt-water fish, would they die, or would they be able to survive and breed?

I know it would probably depend on the species of fish, so here are the ones I'm most curious about..

1. Red Snapper

2. Halibut

3. Salmon

4. Haddock

5. Cod

They would very rapidly die due to osmotic shock. Don't do it. Their blood is much more concentrated than fresh water, and as a result would suffer a vast amount of water diffusing into it, causing a large number of homeostatic problems.

Salmon are generally euryhaline - capable of living in a wide range of salt concentrations - while the other groups you mentioned are stenohaline. Salmon are anadromous, that is, born in fresh water, but living in the sea as an adult (with the exception of a few species, which live in fresh water all their lives). It's possible that salmon would survive but being returned to freshwater might, I suppose, induce spawning behaviour - and they die after they've spawned.
If you change its habitat, it want survive no matter what type of fish it is. It's just not use to the new environment. What would happen if salt-water fish were put in a fresh-water lake?
The same as a frying pan!
