Well, Salt Lake City has a free local weekly newspaper called City Weekly, so you could check listings in there. Some bands perform at the Energy Solutions Arena, so you could call them.
The city of SLC has a free concert summer series by the Gateway Outdoor Mall at Pioneer Park. It's called the Twilight Concert Series and is every Thursday night at 7pm. I haven't attended a concert there but they're really successful and usually get big turnouts for the concerts.
