What are some cool places to see near salt lake city?

I will have 2 days to explore the area around Salt Lake City and was wondering if there are any cool national parks/camping areas near by? Zion and Bryce Canyon are a little far away so I was wondering if there was anything closer?What are some cool places to see near salt lake city?
I loved Golden Spike National Historic Site in Promontory, Utah. It's the site where the two pieces of the transcontinental railroad came together. They have a little museum, replicas of two steam engines, and you can hike trails along the old railroad cuts. It's pretty cool. - - - Read Stephen Ambrose's book "Nothing Like It In the World" before you go and you'll appreciate the story behind the place even more.
Most of the national parks aren't near Salt Lake, but you can still find plenty of camping and hiking around. For a quick hike near the city, do Ensign Peak. For longer hikes and camping, check out this site:
