My boyfriend and I are moving from Maine to Salt Lake City at the end of this month and we are looking to rent within 30-40 minutes from Park City. We are both 24 years old. I have been looking in the Sugarhouse/Cottonwoods/Millcreek area but it would be great to have more options, seeming how I am completely unfamiliar with SLC. Any help would be much appreciated! What are nice areas to live in in Salt Lake City?
Well, the areas you mentioned are very nice.
Seriously, Millcreek is a census-designated place and township in Salt Lake County. This is a suburban area wedged between Salt Lake City and South Salt Lake on the north and Murray and Holladay on the south.
For Sugar House, I think this is a great choice to live. This is one of the city's oldest neighborhoods. The neighborhood is also the site of Westminster College. If you like older houses / neighborhoods, this area is perfect for you.
Cottonwood is also very nice. I got the impression that this area is also very mature. This is a city located in Salt Lake County, along the east bench of the Salt Lake Valley.
Magna is also a good choice. It is also a census-designated place and township in Salt Lake City. Thanks to I-210, it is still close to downtown. This area is home to the Kennecott Smokestack, one of the tallest free-standing structures in the US.
After locating the area, you might need to find apartments to live. I don鈥檛 know your budget and needs for lodging facilities. Maybe you can find an apartment by yourself. But I found a page for you. This page will tell you how to find cheap apts for rent.

Anyway, hope helpful! What are nice areas to live in in Salt Lake City?
Hi! I have lived in the Salt Lake area all my life so let me do my best to answer your questions...
First, yes, it does get VERY warm here during the summer. Right now, we have been experiencing 90's and low 100's. It also gets quite cold in the winter, so it is a great place to live if you want to truly experience all 4 seasons, although fall and spring seem like they always get cut off short. :-) Anyway, it is a very safe place to live. A lot of people choose to raise their families here. There are only a few places you probably want to avoid living in, even though comparatively speaking, they aren't nearly as bad as other cities. You probably want to avoid living in Rose Park (which is northwest Salt Lake City). The city is laid out in a grid which makes it nice to figure out where you are. The center point is the LDS temple downtown, and blocks are named for their distance away from that. So, 2300 South would be 23 "blocks" south of the temple, and 100 South would be 1 "block" south, etc. if you get the idea. I put "block" in quotations because they seem bigger than normal blocks to me, but I could be wrong. Anyway, typically the farther west you go, the cheaper living will be, but it's also not necessarily the best place to live. Most people prefer to live east of I-15, the freeway that runs north and south in Salt Lake City. This is typically about 500 - 800 West. You definitely shouldn't have a problem finding a nice studio for under $500, but if you want bedrooms, it depends on how nice of an apartment you want and how much you are willing to trade on location. You could also look at suburbs around Salt Lake. Bountiful and North Salt Lake are great places to live, and are only 15-20 minutes away from downtown. You could also look at Murray, Holladay, Sandy, and Draper.
