I am trying to get to anchorage alaska from salt lake city, utah. My finances are low to none. Wondering if anyone out there knows of anyway to get there very inexpensively or for free. I am trying to make a life change and with help and God on my side, I am sure to make it.I am trying to get from salt lake city, utah to anchorage, alaska?
Sell everything you can at a "moving sale" and give away any of your possessions that wont fit into your car or truck. Then drive through Canada. When I did it I camped as I went. The campgrounds in British Columbia and the Yukon Territory are *very* nice.
Before you get to Canada stock up on gas treatments with octane boost. Some of the gas you'll encounter along the way is very poor quality and might make your engine sputter, or at least that was true 10 years ago. Put a can in at every fill up and you'll save yourself some grief. Also, if your car gets bad gas mileage fill up at every station even if you think you have plenty of gas once you're on the Alcan.
If you're going to make the drive get the ESSENTIAL map and guide called The Milepost. Just google it and you'll find out what I mean.
Also, you'll have to convince Canadian customs that you wont get stuck in Canada and be a burden on their system. They'll ask you how much tread is on your tires and when your car last had a tune-up. They also asked if I had a job lined up in Alaska and how much money I had on me, and in savings.
Alternatively, buy a one way airfare. It's under $700.00. You should be able to make that much at your moving sale.I am trying to get from salt lake city, utah to anchorage, alaska?
I dont think you can get there for free, but I live in Anchorage and I either drive on the Alcan (Alaskan-Canadian highway) to the lower 48 or take a ferry down to Washington. But it does cost a lot when you factor in gas money.
